Security Council Holds Open Debate on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence

The Council holds an open debate today on conflict-related sexual violence under its agenda item on women, peace and security, hearing from over 70 speakers. 

It will consider the report of the Secretary-General on the matter (document S/2025/389), as well as a concept note on the theme “Identifying innovative strategies to ensure access to life-saving services and protection to survivors of sexual violence in conflict zones”, contained in a letter from the Permanent Representative of Panama, Council President for August, to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General (document S/2025/499).

Pramila Patten, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, and Ikhlass Ahmed, Founder and Coordinator of the Darfur Advocacy Group, will participate in the meeting under Rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure.
