TRIPOLI -- Eight people were killed on Friday afternoon in a traffic accident at the western entrance of Ajdabiya city in northeastern Libya, local media reported.
The reports said that a passenger transport vehicle crashed near Gate 18, killing all on board -- 7 Sudanese passengers and a Libyan driver.

WASHINGTON -- The United States will not allow shipping in the Strait of Hormuz "to be contested" by Iran, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at a Friday news briefing.
There is no clear evidence that Iran has placed mines in the Strait of Hormuz, he said.

DAR ES SALAAM -- Six health workers from the Kigoma District Council in western Tanzania died, and three others remain missing, after a boat capsized on Lake Tanganyika during strong winds, authorities said Friday.
The incident occurred at about 8:00 a.m. local time on Friday in the Kalalangabo area in Kigoma-Ujiji municipality.
According to officials, the victims were among 18 health workers traveling aboard a council-owned boat en route to Kagunga village to provide vaccination services. (Tanzania-Accident-Death)

ISLAMABAD -- Seven police personnel were killed after an explosion struck a police vehicle in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said on Friday.
A police squad was on routine patrol duty when their vehicle was targeted with an improvised explosive device in the Lakki Marwat district of the province, Qudratullah, a spokesman of the district police told the media.
He said that the law enforcement personnel were the target of the blast, which killed five policemen on the spot and injured several others. (Pakistan-Police-Blast)
