Breakaway talks end without result
Sudan News.Net Friday 18th July, 2008
The conflict between Georgia and its breakaway region of Abkhazia is still raw after a German solution was rejected by separatists.
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier met with Abkhaz leaders in the disputed region to outline his peace plan.
But the president of the self-declared republic of Abkhazia, Sergei Bagapsh, told him the plan is unacceptable.
Bagapsh has said there can be no talks to resolve the conflict until Georgia withdraws troops from a part of Abkhazia called the Kodori Gorge.
In recent times, tensions have been rising between Georgia, Abkhazia, and another breakaway region, South Ossetia.
